Steps to Obtain Services from the Division of Disabilities

Tacoma Representative from Division of Developmental Disabilities will be describing steps parents should take to obtain services and will provide applications to do so. Dr. Raphael Bernier from UW Autism Center will be updating us on his center's current research and shares information about opportunities for free services in exchange for participation in UW Research programs Plus: Hear from other families already in the system and/or who participated in research and learn tips from them!

IEPs Best Practices (Advanced)

If you are a veteran at IEP meetings, we have not forgotten about you. If you are a parent with a child who is three years of age or older and you have been attending IEP meeting for over a year and a half, please join us for our free Best Practices at IEP Meetings legal seminar. This is an intermediate seminar for parents who have been attending IEP meetings and want tips and best practices to use and some case references to look at.

Come join us as we share tips from TACA families all over the country for surviving the holidays — GFCF recipes, handling school parties and family celebrations, gift ideas, communicating with family, etc. Bring your own tips and traditions to share with the group. We will also talk about how to stay healthy during the holidays. We will be sharing Dr. Usman's tips on how to prevent and treat the flu. We will also raffle off a flu treatment kit donated by Dr. Usman's office that contains $80 worth of supplements to keep you and your family healthy during the holidays. Bring your questions and concerns and we will brainstorm together ideas to make this year's gatherings the best ever!

Using Science and Sound to Make Learning and Developmental Change for the Child with Autism

Dorinne S. Davis is the President/Founder of The Davis Center and Davis Sound Research Associates, LLC. She has over 40 years of experience as an Educational/Rehabilitative Audiologist and provides the foundation for the center's distinctive focus and evaluative capabilities. Ms. Davis is certified in 20 major sound-based therapies. She authored Sound Bodies through Sound Therapy. The Davis Center is the world's most comprehensive sound therapy center and uses a unique Diagnostic Evaluation for Therapy Protocol (DETP) to identify core issues in the areas of learning, development and wellness for people of all ages. The main therapies used in The Davis Model of Sound Intervention (developed from The Tree of Sound Enhancement Therapy) are AIT, the Tomatis Method, and BioAcoustics.

Stephanie Belseth is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with over 17 years experience in pediatrics, with advanced training in Functional Medicine and Defeat Autism Now! approaches to treating children with autism and related disorders. She attends all of the major DAN! conferences/clinician trainings in order to keep up on the latest research and clinical approaches, and is pursuing ongoing training in Functional Medicine by attending the Institute for Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Modules on topics pertinent to the treatment of children with ASD. Stephanie additionally has recently trained at the Rimland Center in Virginia with Dr. Liz Mumper in order to further refine her skills and will maintain a mentoring relationship with Dr. Mumper for consultation on particularly challenging cases. She is also familiar with the approaches of other biomedical providers in the state and nationally.

Before focusing entirely on biomedical and functional medical care, Stephanie worked in the areas of general pediatrics, asthma, autism/developmental delays and early childhood development. Stephanie has always been interested in nutrition and holistic care and became more interested in biomedical treatments for ASD and related conditions when her son developed such symptoms as a young toddler. She jumped on board aggressively to treat him from biomedical and other early intervention approaches and saw amazing response to treatments. She feels blessed that he is doing very well at this time. She also applies a biomedical approach to her other two children who have related issues. All of this has made her able to to provide practical support to parents/families implementing biomedical care with their children. Stephanie founded Newbridge Clinic in order to make quality biomedical care more accessible, affordable and supportive for parents and children with autism and related conditions She has been seeing patients since late August 2009 at the Bloomington location, off of 35W and 82nd Street.

Sensory Integration Therapy - Symptoms and Treatment for Home and School!

Jamie became certified to administer the Sensory Integration and Praxis tests in 1994. She serves as a Regional Consultant for children with sensory integration difficulties, working with families, schools, and therapists throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. Jamie has also served as the Sensory Integration Special Interest Section Chair of the North Dakota Occupational Therapy Association for several years. She guest lectures at University of North Dakota, University of Mary and Northland Community and Technical College in EGF on sensory integration topics.   

The building is on the north side of W. Sahara, just west of Jones. Parking is in the rear lot. The Wengert Room is inside the curved wall at the rear of the building.
