After Jan and Megan share some of what life is like today they will answer questions. This meeting is sure to be educational, inspiring, and heart warming. Jan can answer questions about insurance, funding, and local providers, while Megan can share what is like in the teenage years. You won't want to miss this special mother/daughter presentation.
Jan Crandy is a commissioner on the Nevada Commission for Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as one of the case managers for the Self Directed Funding known as RAGE. Her greatest accomplishment is her family and beautiful children.
Megan Crandy is Jan's youngest daughter. After Megan was diagnosed with autism, Jan found her mission in life. She has not only helped her own daughter, but is one of the greatest voices for our community in Nevada. Megan is a thriving teenager who after early intensive intervention made remarkable improvement.

PECS Basic Training - Reno - February 8-9, 2010

Directions from your locationDate February 8-9, 2010 Time 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Description PECS Basic Training This intensive two-day training is designed to teach participants to appropriately implement the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). It begins with an overview of designing effective educational environments. A historical overview of language training programs used with non-verbal individuals is discussed along with how to set the stage for an abundance of communication opportunities. Participants will learn how to implement the six phases of PECS, including attributes, through presenter demonstrations, video examples and role-play opportunities.

The Tomatis Method improves skills for listening, communicating and learning and has been clinically proven to improve expressive/receptive language, focus/attention, auditory processing, social/behavioral skills, sensory integration and overall learning. The Listening Center is a California based clinic that travels to communities that are geographically inconvenienced by their facility locations. The Listening Center is owned and operated by Dr. Deborah Swain.
Dr. Deborah Ross-Swain, CCC-SLP is the founder, owner and clinical director of The Swain Center and The Listening Center for Listening, Communicating and Learning. Dr. Swain is the former Chief of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of California, Davis Medical Center and held a clinical staff faculty appointment at the School of Medicine. She is the Past President of California Speech Pathologists and Audiologists in Private Practice (CALSPAPP) and is a board member of the American Academy of Private Practice Speech Pathologists and Audiologists (AAPPSPA). Dr. Swain served on California Speech-Language and Hearing Association (CSHA) Task Force for developing Guidelines for (Central) Auditory Processing Disorders as well as the committee investigating Professional Encroachment. Dr. Swain is a nationally recognized speaker and professional writer. Dr. Swain is on the Board of Directors of The National Coalition of Auditory Processing Disorders (NCAPD) and the Northern California Representative of the Educational Audiology Association. Dr. Swain is a frequent guest speaker for Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) and Families for Early Autism Treatment (FEAT) and works collaboratively with health care professionals in the treatment of autism. She is the author of numerous standardized test batteries and treatment manuals.
