Having both the experience of a mother of a child with autism as well as a professional in the field, Ms. Redwood will share her inspiring journey as well tips for helping your own child.
Lyn is co-founder and board member of the Coalition for SafeMinds and the National Autism Association. Ms. Redwood co-authored a landmark paper in 2000 linking the symptoms of autism with excessive exposure to mercury; she is an advocate for research into environmental factors in autism. Ms. Redwood testified before the Government Reform Committee on Mercury in medicine: Are we taking unnecessary risks? in 2000, and before a Congressional sub-committee on health in 2003. She has published in the journals Neurotoxicology, Molecular Psychiatry, Medical Hypotheses, Mothering Magazine, and Autism-Aspergers Digest. Ms. Redwood has appeared on Good Morning America, the Montel Williams Show, and has been interviewed by U.S News and World Report, Wired Magazine, People and numerous other publications. She is prominently featured in the award-winning book by David Kirby, Evidence of Harm. Ms. Redwood serves on the Department of Defense Autism Spectrum Disorder Research Program and the National Institutes of Health Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee.

The presentation will teach strategies to increase communication skills and decrease difficult behaviors through a verbal behavior approach.
She has her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Special Education and her Master's degree in Special Education, with a concentration in Autism/Emotional Disorders. She has over 13 years experience teaching children with autism, receiving her training through various Behavior Analysts, as well as attending workshops. She is eligible to take the Board Certfied Behavior Analyst (BCBA) exam. She has been providing consultation and direct therapy to children with autism for the past 6 years, focusing on intensive behavioral intervention. Mrs. Courtney is the co-owner of Summit Learning Center in Roswell.
