Greetings TACA Members!

Here is your latest update on TACA. We want to make this e-newsletter informative for you. As always, contact us with your questions or thoughts on how we can improve it.

Health Care Reform That Fails to Stop Autism Insurance Discrimination is STILL Unacceptable—TACA Needs Your Help.  AGAIN!

H.R. 3200 (The Health Reform Bill) is currently in mark up in the House of Representatives. Despite our call in efforts, Autism Insurance Reform is not included in the bill.

So what does this mean?

This means that an amendment will be required to include Autism Insurance Reform to the current bill.

How do we do that?

We can get an amendment added to the bill if we can generate thousands of phone calls to Speaker Pelosi’s office today! We can do this.  It is critical to every family dealing with autism to make these calls.

How you can help.

Contact Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and demand (politely and respectfully) Autism Insurance Reform. Speaker Pelosi is the only person we need you to contact at this point.

Please use these numbers.

Speaker Pelosi’s Washington DC office: 202-225-0100

Speaker Pelosi’s West Coast Office (for those calling after 2 pm Pacific Standard Time): 415-556-4862

Pick which office works with your time zone.

Need help with what to say on the phone? Use the following message, if you like:

“Hi, my name is ___________________. I am calling from _____________ (city), _______________________ (state).  I want Speaker Pelosi to know that health care reform that does not stop autism insurance discrimination is completely and totally unacceptable. People with autism deserve coverage for the treatments and therapies that will help their medical condition. Thank you.”

Advocacy tip of the day

Remember that you can multiply your efforts when you think outside the box.  The people who call do not need to have a child with autism.  They need to care about this issue and be willing to make two phone calls a day until the issue is resolved.  TACA challenges everyone to find 10 people you know (family, neighbors, coworkers, teachers, aides, therapists, etc.) that will be willing to do this to help your child, and all children in the United States with autism.

Autism Insurance reform efforts are supported by the following organizations:
  • Age of Autism
  • Autism Society of America
  • Autism Speaks
  • National Autism Association
  • Schafer Newsletter
  • Talk about Curing Autism
  • Unlocking Autism
Let’s exercise our right as Americans to be heard by our elected officials and make Autism Insurance Discrimination a thing of the past.
